Public
Relations in India is comparatively very much new profession in a organized
manner. Even today, except few Metro
cities or even in Metro cities almost every section of society is unaware of
this profession. Those who know about
this profession, they have limited knowledge about this profession. People
recognize this professional as an Individual who gets the news item published
in local leading news paper. And that’s the only his job. Further, even people
think that getting news item published is compulsory on part of Public
Relations Agency or a consultant.
But now a
day’s scenario in Metro cities particularly in some sections like Public listed
companies, consumer product industry, entertainment industry and political
party’s awareness about this profession or business is slowly increasing.
Earlier this profession was handled by suppliers of well wishers of the
organization. Organizations use to seek help from journalist working with city
news paper, Advertising Agency, Printer, Liaison officer or a person related to
news paper industry just to get news item published in local leading news
paper. Or some times for organizing press meet.
In the
beginning of 1980 few individuals and advertisement agencies started running
this profession independently.
